ABOUT

My name is Glenn Benton and I am a blind man.

You ask why a blind man would have a web site? Well, that is a good question. Perhaps you are fortunate enough to have your outer vision, but you must consider that you also have an inner-vision.
Thus, you will be able to appreciate what you are about to read. A message from "A Blind Man" who found his "Inner-Vision."

I have not always been visually impaired. I lost my sight at the age of 27. My life style lead me down a path of destruction that consequently landed me in a County Jail. This time for an alleged offense that I had not committed. That is not to say I was innocent of all crimes and that I did not deserve to be in jail for past offenses. I had often gotten by but this time I didn't get away!

I was awaiting trial when I was confronted by another prisoner who I had a verbal altercation with. He attempted to take my life by stabbing me numerous times about the body and face. I was stabbed in the heart and jugular vein. The loss of blood was so severe that my heart stopped. The doctors pronounced me DOA (Dead On Arrival). Fortunately, I still had brain activity and they decided to attempt to revive me. After successfully reviving me -- I required a blood transfusion. The transfusion caused a blood clot in the optical area of the brain, which causes the eyes not to focus, thus rendering me blind.

My reality was just about to begin. I awoke after two and a half weeks of being in a coma to find myself blind and helpless. This absolutely could not be the end of my life. So I set out to be the "Best Blind Man" ever. You have to understand a bit about me to realize what I am trying to convey. I have always been an independent spirit, well groomed and impeccably dressed. I was not about to let being blind stop me from living!

So, for the first time in my life I had to lean not on my own understanding but to cry out to the only one that could possibly know my pain! Shortly thereafter, I accepted Christ and began my focus on improving my spiritual walk.

Losing my sight perhaps saved my life! Therefore, I had dedicated myself to sharing with others my testimony and life experiences. Perhaps I can touch some young man or women and prevent them from self-destructing.

In my spiritual walk, I am motivated by a great leader, teacher, mentor and pastor Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Sr. at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland, CA.

I've successfully completed my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting and Finance Option) from California State University, Hayward.

I'm currently a motivational speaker at various High Schools in the Greater Bay Area.

Perhaps being "Blind" is the best thing that ever happened to me. It is through losing my "Outer Vision" that I speak from my "Inner Vision".
